O forno rotativo é um cilindro horizontal revestido internamente com refratários, montado com uma pequena inclinação. A rotação do forno induz o transporte do resíduo através do forno e melhora a mistura do resíduo a ser queimado. O resíduo pode ser transportado tanto concorrente quanto em contracorrente em relação ao fluxo de gás.
