A packing housing is a component of a mechanical seal that is designed to hold and compress a flexible packing material, also known as "packing," around the shaft of a rotating machine to prevent fluid from leaking out. The packing housing typically consists of two parts, a stationary gland and a rotating shaft sleeve. The gland is bolted to the equipment housing, while the shaft sleeve is fixed to the rotating shaft. The packing material is inserted into the space between the gland and the shaft sleeve, and is compressed when the gland is tightened down.
