A simple ceramic processing for making near-net shape products. The gel casting process consists of dispersion of ceramic powders in monomer solution to form a fluid that is subsequently cast into the non-porous mould. At the elevated temperature or by acting of catalyst, initiator and a cross-linking agent, the monomers are polymerised to form a strong, cross-linked polymer-solvent gel that immobilises the ceramic slurry in the desired shape.
