The "back focal length" (also known as "back focus" or "back working distance") is a term used in optics to describe the distance between the rear principal plane of a lens or optical system and the image plane (sensor or film) when the lens is focused on a specific subject at infinity. In other words, it's the distance from the last lens element or surface of the lens to the sensor or film.
