Airbag deployment is the process by which an airbag is rapidly inflated to cushion and protect vehicle occupants in the event of a collision. When a collision occurs, sensors within the vehicle detect the impact and send a signal to the airbag control module. The module then activates an igniter, which ignites a propellant and rapidly inflates the airbag within milliseconds. The airbag deploys from a compartment in the dashboard, steering wheel, or side of the vehicle and inflates to provide a cushion between the occupants and the vehicle interior, reducing the risk of injury from impact.
