Flag nuts are ideal for fasteners in hard-to-reach places. The flag is a small piece of material to which the nut is attached. The flag protrudes perpendicularly from the axis of the nut and, upon tightening of the nut, as the nut rotates, the flag caughts on any nearby structure, for instance, a frame, such that the flag acts as a wrench during the tightening process.
